Holy Week of service - Tuesday Caring and sharing

'Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.'  Galatians 6:2

Jesus “went about doing good” — He was actively concerned about the sick, the dying, the bereaved, the lonely, the downtrodden, the despised, the poor, the aged, and the children.

We seek to live a more Christ-like life through the practice of caring and sharing with those around us. This practice helps others understand when someone else is in need and shows a sense of responsibility towards all in our community. Sharing, in turn, shows caring, and can bring the entire community together.

  • Offer to run errands for someone

who cannot drive or leave their house.

Perhaps you know someone in your neighborhood or at church who is unable to get out and about. Let them know you are running errands and ask them what they need. Or surprise them by mowing their lawn or doing other chores around the home.

If you feel the long-term call to help in this capacity, Round Rock Senior Access provides an easy way to offer your services to help drive seniors to appointments.  It is flexible and you only pick up rides when you are available to drive:

  • Make a phone call to someone who lives alone or might otherwise just need a call from a friend.

Here is a link to the church directory to help jog your memory when you have a few minutes to make a call. Need the password? please call the church office to get the password 512-244-2152

To make a longer-term impact, consider joining the Williamson County Medical Reserve Corps “Wise Owl” team.  This team recognizes the desire and fundamental need for our elders to have some sort of outside contact with others and organizes scheduled phone calls to engage residents, who otherwise may not have the opportunity to have a visitor.  Sign-up here.

  • Donate your old cell phone, eyeglasses, and/or frequent flyer miles to charity.

What are the things in your life that are gathering dust in a drawer or airline reward account?
    • Donate old eyeglasses at Walmart vision centers, they collect for the Lion’s club.
    • Donate old cellphones at Goodwill or here.
    • Donate frequent flyer miles using your airline’s website – here are a few:
        Delta                 American               Southwest               United

  • Provide assistance to or through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) enables congregations and mission partners of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) to witness to the healing love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by crisis and catastrophic event. There are many ways to partner with PDA as described on their website (https://pda.pcusa.org/). From big to small, here are a few specific suggestions:

    • Small: Donate to provide blankets to provide warmth and security

    • Medium: Make a designated gift for an ongoing project at PDA

    • Big: Mission Presbytery Relief needs a F350 type truck to haul donations. See Kim for details.

  • Choose your own random act of Caring and Sharing

How can you share the love of Christ to show that you care?
