Spreading JOy

Jesus is the light of the world. And we are called to be His light here in our lives. In other words, we are called to “share the joy”. Good deeds don’t always have to be huge, like giving a billion dollars to some charity or volunteering 20 hours a day at a soup kitchen. Giving money and volunteering are great, and we should do both, but we can show Jesus’ love in the little things too, like offering a person a listening ear, showing compassion, extending forgiveness, being the first to apologize, or letting someone else go first in a busy line. Here are some other ideas:

  • Hide a Happy Note for Someone.

    Go Crazy! Hide notes in place where people will find them now or later. It could be family members or friends or people in your community like postal workers or sanitation workers or even bill collectors. Perhaps you can paint rocks with colorful pictures and hopeful message and place them along a walking trail.

  • Tell the Boss about an employee who gave you good service.

    Perhaps you have a recognition system at work – Use it! Maybe someone who helps you with phones support really shows that they care and solves your problem. Ask them for their managers name and e-mail address. Won’t they be surprised when the boss calls them into their office with good news for a change!

  • Buy Easter cookies for a neighbor or senior.

    Nothing is better than a fresh home-baked cookie. In light of Covid-19, many are hesitant to receive homemade food from a stranger. Please use your own judgement to decide if someone would appreciate a homemade item, or if purchasing cookies would be a better option:

  • Donate to a friend’s favorite charity.

    When someone has a passion for a cause, it shows on their face, in their voice, and with their actions. Most charitable organizations have websites that allow donations in honor of others. Show a friend or two that you have heard them and honor their passion by making a donation in their name and asking the organization to recognize them with a note of thanks.  

  • MAKE OR SEND A CARD FOR A SENIOR AT A NURSING HOME OR SENIOR LIVING COMMUNITY.

    A simple note can add so much to someone’s day.  A handwritten note letting a resident at a senior living community know that they are remembered and that they are a beloved child of God can be exactly what someone needs.  Here are a few communities to choose from to send a note of care:

    To make a longer-term impact, consider joining the Williamson County Medical Reserve Corps “Wise Owl” team. This team recognizes the desire and fundamental need for our elders to have some sort of outside contact with others and organizes scheduled phone calls to engage residents who otherwise may not have the opportunity to have a visitor.
